How fast does your car go?

With money to spend and a world of options when selecting a car, every car lover goes for one option, namely a sports car. In the world of sports cars, however, there are the basic criteria of speed, speed, speed and, well, speed.

According to several critics, the fastest sports car is the Dauer 962 LeMans from 1994, with an acceleration speed of 2.6 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. The fastest Ferrari car is the 2002 Ferrari ENZO, and it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph at a breakneck speed of 3.5 seconds. Other fast cars include a Chevrolet, a Dodge, a LeBlanc, a Renault, an Audi and a Corvette, all of which have an acceleration speed of no more than 2.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph.

Now, the question that begs for an answer is: what makes a fast sports car?

While the styling is a very good standard in obtaining a sports car, there is more to the slenderness than just the style. The very sleek and streamlined designs of these fast sports cars actually contribute to fantastic aerodynamics, making it much easier to drive the car fast without worrying about air resistance, air pressure, etc. The hot and sexy car design actually provides more than just aesthetics, but gives a boost to the speed and performance of the car.

Another feature that contributes to the speed of the car is the reduced weight. This is reflected in the reduced loading capacity of a sports car. Fortunately, this is not such a big problem with sports car enthusiasts.   Related to the loading capacity and the reduced weight is the fact that some sports cars have smaller seating capacities and are usually characterized by firmer, tighter rides, compared to the wider and more comfortable rides offered by sports cars or sedans.

A final consideration in speed, however, is the general dynamics, which includes driving behaviour and resistance during driving. A sports car is of little value if it is unable to maintain straight-line speeds when driving in tight curbs and is crushed after being hit on a dead end track. That's why even the fastest sports cars are usually rear-wheel driven instead of front wheel driven, as the rear-wheel drive provides more traction and an even weight distribution when cornering.

Although a sports car is more than just speed, it can't hurt to be fast either. After all, the Dauer 962 LeMans from 1994 is appreciated precisely because it exceeds the speeds of any other fast sports car.
